Public Libraries
Most public library staff seem to be reasonably aware of VI's problems and willing to listen to your requests if you explain your situation.
Many Libraries hold 'spoken word ' titles on standard audio cassettes. These are normally issued free of charge for a restricted period on production of your
registration certificate. This service may also extend to music CD's and other media. There can be a difficulty accessing lists so it is probably wise to go with a list of options then ask for help. All public libraries in England and Wales should, by now, have subscribed to the 'Share the Vision' inter library service whereby any suitable format reading can be borrowed - this includes non-public sources such as RNIB and Calibre. Ask for the 'Reveal' catalogue.
The Reference Department will help you consult books, directories etc and should have a CCTV viewer suitable for the partially sighted.
