The RVI Low Vision Aids Clinic

Most Eye Hospitals have clinics where you can get advice on 'low vision aids' which are usually various magnification devices which, as long as you have some residual vision, may help you to read, and see a little better at various distances.

Note however that you must practice with such devices, and when reading you will probably require extra light.

In the RVI the Opticians’ Department have a Low Vision Aids Clinic where your sight can be assessed and receive guidance in suggested optical visual aids. If you are registered suitable devices may be available on permanent loan. Devices which are not being used must be returned as other people may be able to use them.

Various electronic devices can be tried. These devices such as closed circuit television reading equipment have to be purchased yourself

An initial appointment is necessary at which further appointments will be made to check progress. If you are 'signed off' and your sight changes ask for another appointment
